The Simpsons is better than your favorite movie

One of my favorite Simpsons episodes of the past 5 or 6 years is the episode title "HOMR." Basically Homer discovers he has a crayon is his brain, and when it is removed he gains 'normal' intelligence. The whole premise is based on the movie "Charly," which is based on a book, "Flowers for Algernon."

I am usually familiar with movies, tv shows, books, etc... that The Simpsons base their episodes, but not in this case. So I went to Netflix and put the movie in my queue. I watched it a couple of weeks ago and was extremely dissapointed. Maybe it was the overall 60's/70's vibe to the movie (complete with 10 mintue hippy biker acid-trip interlude). Maybe it was the fact the theme of the Simpsons was slightly different from that of the movie.

Regardless I came away with the feeling that the Simpsons just did a better job. Maybe i'll go read the book now. I don't think the Simpsons is better than your favorite book.
